Meet the team with Tom Downes

We recently sat down with our Managing Director Tom Downes to ask him a few questions about MindaClient.

1. What problem do you help solve most often for clients?

I mostly work with our new and prospective clients. Largely, I focus on mapping out a clients processes and then adapting MindaClient to suit their every day work. Our main goal for MindaClient is that it makes our clients’ lives easier and more efficient. We work with a large number of non-profits, who’s staff dedicate their time to serving others. If we can make that time more efficient, help them spend less time doing administration and more time actually helping people, I consider that a success.

2. What’s changed most in this industry since you started?

The buzzword is AI and everything that comes with that. There’s no getting away from it, much like the internet in the early 2000s, AI will just become part of our everyday working and personal lives. I don’t think, as some people fear, this will fundamentally destroy our industry. I do however believe it will force our industry to re-focus on outstanding customer service, something we pride ourselves on here. Regularly our customers highlight how much they like having a dedicated account manager, speaking to the same person every time there’s an issue or query. AI has become part of our process, both internally and as part of our offering, but it won’t ever change our focus on delivering incredible and in-person service to all of our clients.

3. Favourite MindaClient feature?

Our Document Workflow Module. It’s a bit niche, but highly adaptable. Most of our Scholarship Clients are based internationally. Many offer scholarships for students going abroad and coming from foreign countries, requiring a huge amount of documentation and information to be gathered from their scholars. The Document Workflow is that information gathering tool used extensively by our Scholarship Clients. It allows you provide information to individuals on their scholarships and gather an array of information through a secure portal. It has a built in approval process for uploaded content with extensive reporting and bulk communication. We developed this originally for our Fulbright clients but it has been adapted to a number of different uses. Most importantly the module removes the requirement for information to be passed through email, which is the least secure method of information transfer. Any of our clients who use it, have lauded the module in how it has saved a huge amount of time in this complex stage of Scholarship Administration.
